Manchester city and Salford: the biggest search market
Wikipedia puts Manchester in the centre of the county with the city of Salford immediately adjacent to the west. The city alone counts 29,740 enterprises (5,770 in shops, wholesale and motor repair, 5,085 professional services), and Salford 12,170. Keywords Everywhere shows "seo manchester" at 1,300 searches a month and "web design manchester" at 1,000, against "seo salford" at 70 and "web design salford" at 40. Across the other nine boroughs the "seo" phrases add up to 1,160 a month, against 1,300 for "seo greater manchester" and 1,300 for "seo manchester", which it reports with identical figures every month, so treat those two as one pool. Stockport, Trafford and the southern boroughs
Wikipedia places Stockport in the south-east of the county. Stockport counts 14,175 enterprises and Trafford 13,580, the second and third highest counts after Manchester. Trafford’s 2,385 professional services firms are 17.6% of its total and Stockport’s 2,225 are 15.7%, while construction is only 8.8% in Trafford against 11.5% in Stockport. Wikipedia says the county encompasses several former mill towns, with Bolton in the north-west, Wigan in the far north-west and Rochdale in the north-east, and the north and east lying on the Pennines.
