What good website design for tradesmen includes

Built for a customer standing in a wet kitchen, phone in hand.

Good website design for tradesmen puts a call button, the services you offer and the areas you cover on the first screen of a phone, then backs them up with reviews, photos of finished work and accreditation details. Everything else on the site supports that one moment when a customer decides to ring.

Most trade customers arrive on a mobile, often from the Google Map Pack, and leave within seconds if they cannot see a number. The rest of the site does slower work: answering price questions, showing the jobs you are proud of and giving Google enough detail to rank you in the towns you actually want to drive to. Trades are one of nine sectors on our industries page, and the one where speed matters most. We usually build trade sites on Wix when you want to post job photos yourself, or WordPress when you plan to add many service and area pages over time.

How customers choose a tradesperson

Urgent jobs and planned jobs are two different searches.

An urgent job, a burst pipe, a tripped circuit or a slipped tile in a storm, is decided in minutes. The customer searches with "near me" or a town name, looks at the three businesses in the Map Pack, checks the star ratings and calls whoever answers. Speed of response and a visible phone number win those jobs.

A planned job, a rewire, a new boiler, a loft conversion, is researched for days. These customers read price guides, compare photos of previous work, look for proof of registration and often ask an AI assistant, or read Google's AI Overview, to shortlist firms. They want to see that you have done this exact job before, nearby, and that you put prices in writing.

  • Urgent: call button, opening hours, areas covered, reviews
  • Planned: price guidance, project photos, guarantees, registration details
  • Both: a real business name, address details where appropriate and a fast mobile page

Trust signals every trade website must show

The details customers check before they let you into their home.

Anyone working on gas appliances in Great Britain must be on the Gas Safe Register, and customers can check a registration number online in seconds. Electricians who belong to a competent person scheme can self-certify notifiable work, so showing that membership answers a question careful customers already have. TrustMark and trade association memberships help in the same way.

We place these details where they do the most work: beside the call button, on the relevant service pages and in your structured data. Just as important, we never add a badge, logo or number for a scheme you do not belong to. Copying a competitor's accreditation strip is one of the most common mistakes we see on trade sites, and it can do real damage if a customer checks.

  • Gas Safe number shown for gas work, linked to the register
  • Electrical scheme membership only where you hold it
  • Public liability insurance and written guarantees
  • Real reviews from Google, never copied or invented
  • Your business name and address details consistent everywhere

Check the current requirements with the scheme or body you belong to before launch.

How AI assistants pick a tradesperson

More customers now ask an assistant before they open Google Maps.

Ask an AI assistant for an emergency electrician in Bury and it will usually build its answer from Google Business Profiles, review sites, directories and any website that states clearly what you do and where. If your details disagree across those sources, or your site never mentions the town, the assistant names someone it can verify.

We fix that with consistent business details, service and area pages written as direct answers, and schema that says you are a plumber, electrician or roofing contractor. Then we track the questions your customers ask in six assistants every month, the same tracking used in our AI Search Optimisation plans.

Trade website questions

See also our FAQ page.

How much does a website cost for a tradesman?
Our trade websites start from £1,495 excluding VAT on Wix or Squarespace, or £1,995 on WordPress if you want room to grow with area and service pages. Monthly local SEO starts from £495. See all prices.
Do I need a website if most of my work comes from word of mouth?
Usually, yes. People who hear your name from a neighbour still search for you before they call, and they check your reviews and photos. A clear website and profile turns a recommendation into a booked job instead of a lost one.
How do I get my trade business on Google Maps?
Through a verified Google Business Profile with the right categories, service areas, photos and reviews. Service-area businesses can hide their home address. We set this up as part of every build, and our Google Business Profile management keeps it active.
Should I have a separate page for every town I cover?
Only where you have something real to say about that area, such as the jobs you do there, typical property types and how quickly you can attend. A page per town with the name swapped is easy for Google to ignore. We start with the towns that bring the most work.
Should my website show my Gas Safe or NICEIC details?
Yes, where you hold them. Customers can check the Gas Safe Register and scheme registers online, and seeing the details on your site saves them the doubt. We never show a logo or number for a scheme you are not a member of.
How long before a new website brings in calls?
Profile improvements can show in the Map Pack within weeks. Organic rankings for competitive searches usually take three to six months. Nobody can honestly guarantee positions, but we report calls and enquiries every month so you can judge the work.
Can you update the site while I am out on jobs?
Yes. Send a photo of a finished job or a new price by email or message and Website Care covers small edits like that from £79 a month.
