What is AI website design?
A faster way of working, aimed at a new way of searching.
It is the use of artificial intelligence to speed up how a website is researched, drafted and tested, combined with building the site so AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews can understand it. The tools do the legwork, and a designer still makes every decision that affects your customers.
Search has changed shape. A customer who once typed "plumber Stockport" and scanned ten blue links now asks an assistant who to call, and the assistant answers with two or three names. Your website is one of the main sources it reads before it decides. A site that looks good but says little, hides prices in images or blocks crawlers gets passed over, however polished it is.

- Answer-first pages. Each service page opens with a two-sentence answer to the question it targets, then the detail, prices and proof.
- Clean, fast HTML. Text lives in the page, not in images or behind heavy scripts, so crawlers see it on the first visit.
- Structured data. Organisation, LocalBusiness, Service and FAQ schema that name who you are, what you do and where.
- Consistent business details. The same name, address, phone and services on your site, your Google Business Profile and the main directories.
- Crawler access you choose. Separate robots.txt rules for AI crawlers such as GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot and ClaudeBot.

Can AI design a website without a designer?

Can AI design a website? It can produce a competent layout. It cannot judge whether that layout suits a solicitor, a barber or a kitchen fitter, or whether the most important button is in the right place for your customers.
