What are website maintenance services?

What the work involves, and why it matters more than most owners expect.

Website maintenance services keep a live website working after launch: updating its software, backing it up, watching for attacks and downtime, and making the small content changes a business needs every month. Website Care is our monthly plan for exactly that.

Most problems on small business sites are not dramatic. A plugin falls behind and opens a security hole, an enquiry form quietly stops sending, a certificate lapses and browsers warn visitors away, or last year's prices are still online. Each one costs enquiries before anyone notices. Regular care catches them early, and gives you one person to message when something on the site needs to change. If you are planning a new build, our website design projects can include Website Care from launch day.

What is not included, so nothing surprises you

We would rather be clear now than send an unexpected invoice later.

Website Care is a maintenance plan, not an unlimited design service. Plans advertised as "unlimited changes" usually mean a queue, and the work slows down when you need it most. We keep the scope clear so the routine work is always done on time.

  • New pages, sections or page layouts
  • New features such as bookings, shops or calculators
  • Rebuilding a site that is badly broken or already hacked
  • Writing new content or ongoing SEO work
  • Paid third-party licences, apps or premium plugins

Each of these is quoted in writing first. Larger changes often fit better within a website redesign, and search growth sits within our SEO plans.

Why do I need website maintenance?

Five reasons small business websites stop working for their owners.

Websites decay quietly. Software that was secure at launch gets new vulnerabilities, browsers and phones change, and the details on the site drift away from how the business works today. None of it shows on the homepage until an enquiry goes missing. Our free website and AI visibility audit shows where your site stands today.

  1. Security

Out-of-date plugins are one of the most common ways small WordPress sites are broken into.

  2. Lost enquiries

Forms and email settings fail silently, so messages vanish without anyone knowing.

  3. Trust

An expired certificate or an old price list makes visitors doubt the whole business.

  4. Speed

Bloated images and stale plugins slow pages down, and slow pages lose visitors and rankings.

  5. Search and AI visibility

Broken links, missing schema and outdated details weaken how Google and AI assistants read you. Our technical SEO work fixes the deeper issues.

Maintenance for WordPress, Wix, Squarespace and Shopify

The work changes with the platform, so the plan does too.

WordPress needs the most care, because you are responsible for hosting, updates and security. Website Care for WordPress includes UK hosting, so there is one bill and one person accountable.

Wix, Squarespace and Shopify host and patch the platform for you, so care focuses on what they leave to the owner: content, apps, forms, redirects and search settings. See how we build on Wix, Squarespace and Shopify.

Both can work. This is how they compare for a typical small business site.

Website maintenance questions

See also our FAQ page.

What is website maintenance?
It is the routine work that keeps a website secure, fast and accurate after launch: software and plugin updates, backups, security checks, renewing certificates, fixing broken links and keeping prices, opening hours and team details correct.
What is included in Website Care?
UK hosting for WordPress sites, scheduled updates, backups, security and uptime monitoring, and small edits such as text, image, price and opening hours changes. Larger jobs such as new pages or features are quoted before any work starts, so there are no surprise invoices.
How much does website maintenance cost per month?
Website Care starts at £79 a month excluding VAT. Some providers charge by the hour instead, which is cheaper in a quiet month and far dearer when something breaks. See all Renozer prices.
Do websites really need maintenance?
Yes, though the amount depends on the platform. Self-hosted WordPress needs the most, because you are responsible for updates and security. Wix, Squarespace and Shopify handle the platform themselves, but content, apps, forms and search settings still drift out of date.
Can you look after a website someone else built?
Usually, yes. We start with a health check of the site, its hosting and its plugins. If it needs repair first, such as a hacked site or an abandoned theme, we quote that separately, and if it is beyond saving we will tell you and suggest a redesign.
What happens if my website is hacked?
For sites on Website Care, we restore a clean backup, close the weakness that let the attacker in and change the affected passwords. If a site was already compromised before joining, the clean-up is quoted first.
Is there a long contract?
No long contract. Monthly plans have a three-month minimum, then run month by month with 30 days' notice. If you leave, your hosting, domain and files stay in your name.
