A farm shop near Ormskirk, a joiner in Burnley and a hotel in Clitheroe are found in three different ways. The search numbers and county facts for each corner of Lancashire follow, with what they mean for your site.
Preston, Lancaster and the central and northern towns
Wikipedia names Preston as the largest settlement and Lancaster as the northern city, and says the M6 and the West Coast Main Line run past both. Preston district has the most firms of any Lancashire district, 7,295, and Lancaster 5,485. Search numbers there hold up: "web design Preston" shows 320 a month (competition 0.18) and stayed between 170 and 590 after a November 2025 high of 880, "seo Preston" shows 1,000 (0.03) and "web design Lancaster" 170 (0.18). "seo Preston" shows more volume than "seo Lancashire" (320), so one strong service page and a listing that names your towns give a searcher a reason to ring. Burnley, Accrington, Pendle, Rossendale and the Pennine towns
Wikipedia lists Accrington, Burnley, Padiham, Nelson and Colne among the settlements along the M65, which runs from Colne through Burnley, Accrington and Blackburn to Preston. Burnley, Hyndburn, Pendle and Rossendale together count 12,615 firms, 1,650 of them in construction, and Wikipedia names a brick works at Accrington and a pie maker at Baxenden among local employers. Search is small and local: "web design Burnley" shows 140 a month (0.13), "web design Accrington" 70 and "web design Colne" 10, while "skip hire Accrington" shows 260 (0.71). Clitheroe, Ormskirk, the Fylde coast and the farming country
Wikipedia says that, apart from the coastal resorts, the Fylde and West Lancashire coastal plains are largely rural and devoted to vegetable crops, that much of the lowland around the Forest of Bowland is devoted to dairy farming and cheesemaking, and that the Fylde coast is built up continuously from Lytham St Annes to Fleetwood. Ribble Valley counts 540 farming, forestry and fishing businesses, the most of any district, ahead of Lancaster at 470. The searches carry a town name: "farm shop Ormskirk" shows 170 a month (competition 0.04), "farm shop Burscough" 140, "hotel Clitheroe" 1,900 (0.94) and "pub Clitheroe" 1,600 (0.05), while "web design Clitheroe" shows 50. Genuine photos, stated prices and a phone-friendly enquiry button give a small operator an edge. List your towns on the quote form.
