Web design Cumbria: the problems owners bring us
These are the problems owners describe on a first call, in their own words, and what we do about each one.
A visitor searches for a stay, a hire or a trade in Keswick or Kendal, and the same few names fill the map
Cumbria has 26,285 businesses on the ONS 2026 count, including 3,885 that sell from shops, wholesale or motor repair and 2,575 in food and accommodation, so a Business Profile has plenty of company. First we fix your profile categories and list the towns you really cover. Next, ask your own customers for reviews, which only they can write. Each month’s report then counts the calls, forms and rankings that followed.
A caller on a phone gives up on our slow page and rings a rival
Wikipedia says Cumbria draws over 47 million visits a year, and 22,065 of its businesses employ fewer than ten people, so one lost call can be a lost booking or job. Our pages load fast, with the phone number, WhatsApp and enquiry form a thumb’s reach away. Nothing is published until you’ve signed off the design.
Our last SEO firm sent a monthly PDF and nothing changed
"seo Cumbria" climbed from 30 a month in January to 390 in October, and not one of the 5 readable Cumbria pages gave a price. Plans cost £295, £495 or £695 a month: three months to start, then 30 days’ notice. A monthly report sets calls, forms and rankings out in plain numbers, so you judge the work by results.
A guest asked an AI assistant where to stay or who to call in Cumbria and we weren’t named
No readable Cumbria page mentions AI search (0 of 5), so there’s room to be the first name an assistant picks. Assistants lean on pages that state what you do, where and at what price. Our £2,495 Growth website sets that up with entity schema, llms.txt and FAQ answers, while reviews have to come from your own customers. Growth SEO (£495) and AI Search Authority (£695) add a monthly AI visibility report that shows whether you were named.
Our developer has gone quiet and we can’t change a price or an opening time
Cumbria has 4,740 farming, forestry and fishing businesses and 3,100 in construction, and 4,655 and 2,885 of them have fewer than ten staff, so a quote that doesn’t move and a site you can change yourself are worth having. The domain, hosting login, Analytics and Search Console are yours from the first day, and the Business Website includes a 1 hour training video for small edits. If you’d sooner hand the job over, Website Care starts at £49 a month.
People read our page, then book someone else
The county counts 2,305 professional, scientific and technical firms and 2,575 in food and accommodation, so someone comparing three options decides quickly, and a buried phone number or a slow page loses the call. The £1,495 Business Website counts calls, form sends and WhatsApp taps. Like the look already? The £595 On-page SEO Fix tidies up to 10 existing pages, with rankings shown before and after.

It was a pleasure to work with Muhammad on our new website. He took the time to understand our brief and broke down each step of the process so I was always clear on exactly what he was doing and what was coming next. Muhammad delivered a professional, well built site that looks fantastic. We would highly recommend his services and will definitely be working with him again.
Absolutely STELLAR!!!! He came in and not only fixed someone's else's mistakes - but he did it quickly and now BOTH my mobile AND my desktop sites load quickly and look fantastic!! Thank you again!

Cumbria business market
Cumbria’s business market in numbers
Cumbria is now two unitary authorities, Cumberland and Westmorland and Furness, which replaced Cumbria County Council and the seven district councils in 2023. These counts add the two together, so Carlisle, Kendal, Keswick, Barrow-in-Furness and Penrith are all inside them. Below, each count is turned into what it means for your site.
What Cumbria providers charge, and what we charge
Prices on the 9 Google UK results for web design Cumbria, read on 3 November 2026. We could read 5 of them, and not one showed a website price or a monthly SEO fee. Our figures sit beside that gap.

| What you’re buying | What we found on Cumbria pages | Renozer |
|---|---|---|
| A small business website | None of the 5 pages we could read printed a price. One says every job is billed by the hour with no rate shown, and another promises a "competitive price" without a figure | £995, £1,495 or £2,495 one-off, agreed in writing first, with no VAT and no monthly fee |
| Monthly SEO | No monthly figure on any of the 5, and no pricing at all on the two list pages | £295, £495 or £695 a month; 30 days’ notice once the first three months are done |
| AI search or GEO (ChatGPT, AI Overviews) | 0 of the 5 pages mention it | Included in the Growth website and reported every month on Growth SEO and AI Search Authority |

Local SEO Cumbria
How Cumbria customers search for you
A farm shop near Penrith, a boat hire firm on Windermere and a joiner in Kendal reach customers by three different routes. Below are the search numbers and county facts for each part of Cumbria, and what they mean for your site.
Carlisle, Penrith and the north and east
Wikipedia calls Carlisle the only city, in the north, with Penrith and Kendal in the east, and says Hadrian’s Wall runs through the north of the county. Search numbers here are small and lumpy: "web design Penrith" shows 320 a month (competition 0.28) but ran at 1,300 in November 2025 and 210 in October 2026, "web design Carlisle" shows 170 (0.39, with 70 in October) and "fencing Penrith" 210 (0.75). A trade or shop here is mostly found by people who add the town, so one clear service page and a profile naming the towns you drive to give them a reason to call. Say what pays your bills when you fill in the quote form.
Keswick, Windermere and the Lakes visitor trade
Wikipedia says the Lake District National Park receives some 15.8 million visitors a year while fewer than 50,000 people live in it, and that tourism adds £1.1 billion to the county economy. Cumbria counts 2,575 food and accommodation firms, 1,765 of them under ten staff. The searches are huge but uneven: "boat hire Windermere" 6,600 a month at a competition score of 0.10, "campsite Keswick" 6,600 (0.51), "holiday cottage Keswick" 2,900 (0.73), "bed and breakfast Keswick" 3,600 (0.98), "bike hire Keswick" 390 (0.18, and 880 in October) and "gift shop Keswick" 260 (0.10). Genuine photos, stated prices and an enquiry button that works on a phone help a small operator stand out. Prefer to talk? Ring 0161 394 2632.
Kendal, Barrow-in-Furness and the west coast
Wikipedia puts Workington and Whitehaven on the west coast and Barrow-in-Furness on the south coast, names BAE Systems in Barrow as the largest private employer at about 14,500 and the Sellafield site at 10,000 workers, and notes only five towns with over 20,000 people. Cumbria counts 3,100 construction firms, 2,885 of them under ten staff, and the trade searches carry a town name: "taxi Kendal" 2,400 a month (0.24), "pet shop Kendal" 210 (0.13), "joiner Kendal" 140 (0.37) and "tree surgeon Kendal" 40 (0.56). "Web design Kendal" shows 170 (0.43) but 90 in October, while "web design Barrow-in-Furness" is 20 and Workington, Whitehaven, Cockermouth and Ulverston are 10 each. Small numbers still add up along a long coast, so list every town you serve on the quote form.

Working with a remote web designer for Cumbria businesses
We’re not based in Cumbria and we won’t pretend to be. Here’s how it works, and the three worries people raise most.
- “You’re not local”
We work remotely with UK businesses, Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm UK time, by video call, phone, WhatsApp and email.
- “I’d like to meet someone first”
Every project starts with a video call where you see Younus and his screen, and you approve the designs before anything is built.
- “What if you disappear?”
You own every account from day one, and you can pay through Upwork so your money is only released when you approve each stage.
